The Spiral
You might have heard
of the circle of life.
But that, in truth,
is an illusion.
There are no circles
in life.
No circles
in the universe;
for although it may seem
that one day is much like the next
or that the seasons come and go,
in truth,
each day is fresh and new
and it has never been,
nor will it ever be again.
A king may die
and a new king may be born;
but the old can never be repeated,
and the new is always new;
and it is is this
which gives us hope,
which gives us joy
and brings the future
close to touch, each sunrise
and each breath
is never like the one before.
I cannot understand
why some would try
and cling to the illusion
that there may be circles
when in truth,
the very truth is that
what seems to be
a never ending circle
is a spiral that unfolds
into a never-ending future
rich and new,
each day.
